What Is The Source Of Peace And Hapiness?

BhutanSony Zam says:

The main source of peace and happiness comes from the idea of different people beliefs, culture, etc. i think the source of peace and happiness comes from body Enlightenment that we can attain when we do meditation.

Yes :)

There are many types of peace and happiness I believe. The obvious one is when meditation makes us rest in the present moment, fully aware of ourselves and people around us. This means that we are not looping emotions, dwelling in the past, or dreaming of the future. We understand that it is illogical to do so.

For example, when someone offends us, we get angry and may offend them back. With our minds focused on the present moment, we would realize many truths about anger. Ex.

"Anger does no good to no one", or "who we are is not related with what others say about us, so why so angry?" Or "insults end when the person finished insulting, it is our minds that make them last."

Yet, there is a deeper state of peace. From my understanding of Buddhism and Psychology, our perceptions notice that matters have different shapes, textures, sounds, odors and tastes; therefore, we subconsciously believe that they are different. In fact, it is our perceptions that differentiate them.

Using the same example (when someone offends us), we'd notice that our minds create illusions that ourselves exist, that the offender exists and that the offensive words have meanings. Then the defensive mechanism kicks in and we feel hurtful of being offended and want to offend the offender back.

With minds well-trained in meditation (having the ability to focus), we are able to maintain the realization of the truth: the sameness of things. In other words, recode the subconscious mind to its original state. Then, the mind rests in an indifferent state, which is the enlightenment. This is quite different from ordinary happiness, since it is an ego-less one.

i actually find peace and happiness in things i have experienced meaning and purpose. there is more to life than our consumerist and material concepts of happiness and transcending it, i suppose, unlocks the potential of humanity. i find happiness in things that give me peace but it doesn't necessarily mean that i find peace in things that make me happy. happiness has levels and its purest form for me, is/brings about peace. i find peace and happiness in laughter, endless stories exchanged, traveling economy-class, intellectual conversations shared over cups of coffee, music that grips your soul, articles or quotes that take the words right out of your mouth/mind, being helped by strangers who expect nothing in return, being alone and typing everything that i want to let out, dinner with family etc... little things overflowing with meaning that it haunts you in a good way - making you grateful and more optimistic about life and what it is we are living for. so yes, peace and happiness stem from the meaning we gain and value in things we do. actions that become wonderful memories of a life well-lived.

I think peace and happiness come from acceptance. I think that can come from a lot of places, but obviously we've all chosen the path of meditation! :D

GhanaEmmanuel Korsi Senyo Kumedzina says:

I think peace is the willingness to give and forgive oneself and one another.

Love is not only to dislike something but you feel disappointed in some aspects of something.
You can only be disappointed in somebody when you Love the person.
United Kingdomeb33 says:

I think the source of peace and happiness, both for ourselves and other people, is within each one of us.

I agree with Emmanuel that forgiveness allows true peace of mind; to simply let go of anger and pain is - to me - the easiest way to feel peace inside.
EthiopiaZiyad Rube Abdule says:

As to me, peace is any thing that is inside, that can outshine and contribute to peace in the surrounding community. Any body can be peaceful if his speech, his act, and all his activity in no way harms or if the surrounding community cannot fear of his speech or act in a far distance.Man is what he thinks, the complete sum of all his thoughts and actions. If one becomes Peace within himself, he is surely peace with all his relatives, families and the community. And, no fear would make him lose confidence in his behavior.Peace emanates from positive thought and timely Action. A person shall have to patient at the moment he faces great challenge, which otherwise results in severe disaster to himself and the community. If not he will completely lose Peace within himself and Distorts peace of the community.

I think the mindful moment when one realizes that having differences isn't necessarily a "bad" thing or that joy and love can be seen through myraid lenses, that is a calming, peaceful moment. From that basic, peace can be further cultivated, be it through meditation, volunteerism, or going on nature hikes!
